Add 2000 Steps to Your Daily Walk To Enjoy Good Cardio Health

Walking for Cardiovascular Health

In an experiment that was conducted on a massive global scale encompassing almost 10,000 IGT-specific people hailing from 40 different nationalities, it was proved that just a slight modification in lifestyle could make all the difference to the heart. This modification entailed walking 2000 extra footsteps every day, which took about 20 minutes, and when the results were measured after six years, the risk of heart attack was found to have lessened by 8%.

IGT, an acronym for impaired glucose tolerance, is an inherent condition that is believed to set the stage for problems like diabetes and poor cardio health with advancement of age. At the launch of this experiment, the leading scientist of the study pointed out that the connection between IGT and deterioration in cardiovascular health had been long since established. It had also been theoretically pointed out that one of the most effective ways of overcoming the problem and improving heart health entailed regular physical activity. However, the actual proof emerged only through this experiment.

Having identified the volunteers, the next phase entailed educating them on the importance of regular physical exercise in bringing about weight loss and causing all the extra fat acquired through diet to be shed. Then each of the participants was issued with a pedometer, a device that measures the number of steps taken by the user. Every volunteer was instructed to measure the number of paces that he/she walked per week and record the data over a period of one year.

Six years later when the experiment came to an end the data collected clearly pointed to the co-relation between increased physical activity and improvement in the condition of the heart. Through all the readings it could be conclusively deduced for the first time that an addition of mere 2000 steps every day served to reduce the risk of heart disease by a significant percentage. This is believed to be good news for the almost 8% of the world’s population that constitutes IGT sufferers, a figure that is expected to rise by 0.5% within the next 30 years.

Considering that most IGT victims tend to develop diabetes or cardio problems over a period of time, knowledge of a procedure that is simple, non-invasive and cost effective is not just reassuring but also morale boosting. So do not fret if you are amongst the 344 million IGT victims because all you need to do is to start walking and repeat it every single day.
