DIY Tricks To Combat Morning Sickness

Morning Sickness

How many remedies have you tried to get rid of morning sickness? Everything about being pregnant is amazing- well, except for the morning sickness part. It can certainly take a lot out of you, and it also acts as a lousy beginning to your day. However, there are some home remedies that can help women get rid of morning sickness. Here are some of the remedies.

1. Sniff a Fresh Scent

When you are pregnant, all kinds of smells can tick you off. This might be the smell of sweat, a garbage truck down on the road or even the garbage in your own apartment. All these smells can upset your stomach and cause morning sickness. In fact, morning sickness is highly related to smells. In order to prevent morning sickness, you can leave the window open, or use a non-pungent room spray. A lemony, or citrus-y smell will certainly make you feel better immediately.

2. Avoid Caffeine

Caffeine has a way of making people feel really queasy. You need a lot of rest to ensure that you feel good during your pregnancy. If you have a large amount of caffeine, you won't be able to get the kind of rest you need. This might lead to morning sickness too. In order to prevent this, avoid all types of caffeine.

3. Small Portions Of Food

If you have a lot of food in your stomach, chances are high that you will experience nausea. If there is nothing in your stomach, the acids in your stomach will start working on the stomach lining itself, causing some more nausea. You can avoid both these sides by having small portions of food throughout the day. You can start off by having some peanut butter snacks, or salty crackers, or something. You can continue eating fruits throughout the day. This will keep you sufficiently full, while preventing morning sickness. Moreover, fruits are rich in potassium which is known to battle morning sickness.

4. Drink a Lot Of Water

It might be really tough for you to drink eight glasses of water and keep all of it down when you feel like throwing everything up. However, drinking water can do you a lot of good. According to many studies, being dehydrated can increase the feeling of nausea and morning-sickness, which you need to avoid. You can try crunching on some ice chips, or drinking really cold beverages. Some people swear by hot water, and other hot drinks, too.

5. Ginger in Your Food

Ginger is quite popular for being a stomach soother. It can certainly help you during your morning sickness period too. You cannot eat ginger plain, so you have to come up with creative ways of consuming ginger when you are pregnant. You can add a slice of ginger to hot water, or your tea and drink it. You can make some ginger ale and drink that too. You can also eat ginger, if you choose- gingersnaps, gingerbread, etc. are good examples of the same.

6. Rethink The Vitamins You Are Taking

The pre-natal vitamins you are eating do help you become healthier. However, they are rather hard to digest and can promote morning sickness among people. If your morning sickness is getting worse, you can always consult your doctor to see if you can have children's vitamins instead. Children's vitamins are much easier to digest, so they will not take such a huge toll on your stomach. Make sure that you consult your physician before you make this move.

7. Preventing Acidity

Acidity can increase the chances of morning sickness. If you want to avoid the acid reflux that gives rise to nausea and vomiting, you have to take some antacids before you go to sleep. The antacid will battle the acidity in your stomach and prevent morning sickness. However, you should consult with your doctor before you start taking any antacids.
