Brachial plexopathy or brachial plexus is a form of peripheral neuropathy. The condition occurs when there is damage to the brachial plexus. It is the network of nerves that sends signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm and hand. Usually, during sports the brachial plexus nerves may be stretched, compressed or torn in worst cases. This condition may occur during sports injury, difficult births, trauma, inflammation, tumors and radiation treatment.
Some of the symptoms of brachial plexopathy:
- Shoulder pain
- Numbness of shoulder, arm or hand
- Weakness of shoulder, arm, hand or wrist
- Tingling or abnormal sensation
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor if you have signs of severe pain and weakness in hand, arm, and neck. The doctor may suggest few tests to diagnose the severity of the condition.
