In Your Home Reside?

Comparing cleanliness with Godliness may sound like a cliché but all the same its importance cannot be undermined if good health and well being are to be enjoyed. One of the most effective ways of acquiring cleanliness entails being aware of germ pockets within the house so that these can then be effectively sanitized. Therefore, to acquire a clean house and hygienic surroundings, following are the areas that need special attention –

Scrubber/Rag Used in The Kitchen:

Ironically, the accessory that is used for scrubbing dishes and countertops clean is itself the most potent breeding ground for mold and other forms of harmful bacteria like E. Coli, Salmonella and influenza virus.

As a way of ensuring good hygiene, these should be washed thoroughly in hot water and hung to dry before the next use or alternatively sterilized in the microwave for at least a minute. Another precaution entails discarding used scrubbers on the first of every month and replacing them with new and fresh pieces.

Sinks, Kitchen and Others:

Sinks are undoubtedly convenient in terms of washing but have you realized that the germs that are washed off from raw products as also hands and face adhere to the surface and tend to remain there till dislodged? Not only does this render the sink unhygienic but also makes it a concentration camp for all kinds of pathogens.

Build-up of pathogenic bacteria and germs in sinks is best avoided by using a multi-surface cleaner at least twice a week wherein the liquid is spread evenly, left for about 10 minutes and then rinsed.

Tooth-Brush:

Using a tooth-brush a number of times during the day is universally recommended but over a period of time its bristles tend to get infected with a variety of germs which are then passed on to the mouth during the next brushing session. One of the ways of avoiding this unpleasantness entails keeping your tooth-brush upright in a holder and as much away from the toilet as possible.

Remotes of Electronic Devices:

Every time you change a channel or switch on/off a device like television, DVD player, mobile or music system, do you wash your hands before and after handling? Many people don’t since such activities are so mundane that they do not even count in daily lives and yet they have a way of adding to the germ population within the house.

Swabbing all such surfaces regularly with disinfectants is a measure that goes a long way in preventing infestation of germs on such surfaces.

Other than these, germs tend to gather on rugs and towels too which are best cleaned by being put out in the sun when not in use and kept completely dry thereafter.
