Many have a misunderstanding about why the skin itches during winter. The problem does not begin with the body. It is in the environment. Due to extreme cold and dryness, and we trying to keep our body warm, we turn up the heater to a high temperature. This creates an imbalance is humidity levels thus drying the air around us. To an extent it is also caused by the clothes wear. When our skin is dry, the clothes rub against our skin and due to friction cause the skin to itch.
Here Are a Few Pointers to Prevent an Itchy Skin.
- Make sure the skin in moisturized with lotion: A wide range of skin care products are available for this purpose. The moisture is lost while bathing. So apply immediately after a nice warm shower to lock in the moisture.
- After a nice warm bath, it is good to pat the skin dry than rubbing it. Like mentioned earlier, the friction causes the skin to itch.
- Avoid using too much of soap. Use shower gels which moisturize the skin.
- Use a humidifier instead of a heater at home or at work to maintain humidity levels. This prevents the cold dry air from deplete the little moisture present on the skin.
Winter is here and its getting colder every day. Keep yourself warm and moist. Avoid the winter itch.
