Acute Urinary Retention is sudden failure to urinate or pass urine. One should get immediate treatment for this condition, as it is painful and clearing bladder is more important. There is high risk of kidney stones, prostatitis , prostate cancer in men. Women are at high risk with history of kidney stones problem, pregnant women, those who suffered urinary tract infections in past and who recently underwent gynecological surgery.
Acute urinary retention can be caused by many factors as: over alcohol consumption, delayed urination, no physical activity or bed rest for long time, dysfunction of urinary system or infection, injury in spinal cord and more.
Some of the symptoms of Acute Urinary Retention:
- Discomfort and pain during urination
- Bloated lower belly
- Urgency to urinate but cannot pass urine
- Feeling of urination even immediately after passing urine

Consult a doctor as soon as you find difficulty to urinate and when there is less flow of urination frequently.
