However, more than whitening our teeth, it is more important to maintain good oral hygiene. Daily regimen for oral hygiene can definitely improve your dental health and make your teeth strong and white. In this article, you will find several tips for good oral hygiene that you can easily try at home.

Daily Tips for Good Oral Hygiene

Brushing

Brushing teeth is very first and the obvious tip for good oral hygiene. But here, we are not talking about simply brushing your teeth once or twice a day. Let us get into more details about brushing through this questionnaire.

Q: What is the correct brushing technique?

Hold your brush at an angle of 45 degrees from your teeth and brush in slow, circular movements. Do not make quick sweeping movements by rubbing brush to and fro against your teeth. It can damage your gums.

Q: What type of brush should you use?

A soft bristled brush works best for most people. If you are not very happy with it, you may use a medium bristled brush. However, avoid using a hard bristled brush under all circumstances.

Q: When should you replace your brush?

Replace your brush as soon as you see first signs of withering. The bristles lose their shape and look worn out. These days, you get brushes that have indicators upon them to signal change of brush. If you are using an electric toothbrush, make sure to replace the head every three months.

Q: What type of toothpaste should I use?

Fluoride toothpaste with fluoride content of about 1100 - 1300 PPM is great for good dental care and cleaning. Stay away from toothpastes that claim to whiten your teeth instantly. Instead, you can try using baking soda or salt to whiten your teeth at home.

Flossing

Flossing is yet another daily oral care routine that you should follow. Brushing does not remove plaque, tartar from inter-dental spaces, leading to tooth decay and gum diseases. Flossing daily keeps the inter-dental spaces free of any bacteria. It also helps to remove accumulated plaque and destroys the hiding places of bacteria. If you are wary of flossing your teeth on your own, visit a dental centre to get them flossed.

Mouthwash

A good mouthwash is your key to freshen up your breath instantly. A mint flavored, alcohol free mouthwash is ideal for daily use. Most of the mouthwashes that you get over the counter have enormous amounts of alcohol in it. This leads to drying up of the gums and teeth. You can also use apple cider vinegar as a mouthwash as it has excellent antibacterial properties. Rinse your mouth with apple cider vinegar before you brush your teeth in the morning. It also removes stains from teeth and improves their color.
