  • Dr Raja Sabapathy was honoured with this award at the inaugural year for contribution towards the development of Hand and Microsurgery in Bangladesh, and for his help towards the formation of the 
  • Bangladesh Hand Surgery society. One surgeon selected by the society spends one year in the department and their training and stay is sponsored by Dr S Raja Sabapathy. Five surgeons have been trained so far and they have significantly improved the trauma care on their return.

  • Lester Surgical and Heinz Waldrich Prize of the British Association of Plastic Surgeons (Roderick Dunn & Dr. S. Raja Sabapathy), 2003 Title: ‘Passage to India- Bruce Bailey Fellowship in Hand and Microsurgery at Coimbatore’. 
  • Mr Rodrick Dunn (presently Consultant Plastic Surgoen, UK) spent two months in the Plastic and Hand Surgery unit of Ganga Hospital as the First Bruce Bailey Fellow and on return to UK presented his Coimbatore experiences in the Annual Meeting of the British Association of Plastic Surgeons. This paper won the Lester Surgical and Heinz Waldrich Prize (1500 Pounds) for the best paper in Microsurgery category.
