Dr Santhosh George Thomas graduated with honours from Christian Medical College in Ludhiana, India. He went on to complete his neurosurgical training at Christian Medical College in Vellore, India, an esteemed tertiary care medical institution. In 2010, he was awarded the Dr Jacob Chandy and the Dr MGR University gold medals in neurosurgery for his outstanding performance.  On completion of his residency, he joined the Department of Neurological Sciences as faculty and was promoted to Associate Professor of Neurosurgery in 2013.  He had been part of the teaching faculty for post graduates, medical students, nursing and paramedical staff.

His keen interest in epilepsy led him to specialize in adult and pediatric epilepsy surgery and he was one of the program coordinators of epilepsy surgery. He was also awarded the Hindustan Ciba-Geigy Award in Epilepsy by the Neurological Society of India in 2009 for his exemplary work in the field of epilepsy surgery. He has also received advanced training in stereotaxy including radiosurgery and stereotactic biopsies.

His passion for neurovascular surgery led to further subspecialisation in advanced neurovascular surgery at the Australian School of Advanced Medicine (Sydney). He completed his  Masters in Advanced Cerebrovascular Surgery at Macquarie University Hospital, Sydney in 2015  which is accredited by the Royal College of Australasian Surgeons.  Subsequently he was accepted into a neurosurgical fellowship at the prestigious Royal North Shore hospital, Sydney where he undertook further training in cerebrovascular and spine surgery.

He is the author of several book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals. He has presented at multiple national and international conferences. His research interests include clinical as well as laboratory/cadaveric research which he pursued at Christian Medical College, Vellore, India and at Macquarie University, Sydney. Above all, his excellent interpersonal relationships and team interactions  gives him the strength and conviction to function in a busy neurosurgical service.
