About

Dr. Shumayou Dutta is a Board certified spine specialist who believes that most patients suffering from spinal pain can get better with a well-planned physical therapy regime.

His research work on the role of minimal intervention has been well rewarded with the prestigious Best Paper Award by the Neuro-Spinal Surgeons of India. His work has also been presented at the VTI GOLD Paper session at Assicon 2017.

His expertise lies in key hole interventions for which he has been trained extensively nationally and internationally at reputed centres. Key hole interventions or minimally invasive spinal surgery has revolutionized spinal surgery. The procedures that can be performed with this cutting edge technology are discectomies, laminectomies, laminoplasties and spinal fusion. Compared to the traditional open approach, the advantages are many including limited tissue dissection, superior cosmesis, quicker recovery, minimal post-operative morbidity and least limitation of post-operative activity. The surgeon has the advantage of superior illumination and magnification.

Dr. Dutta has had the opportunity to teach this latest state of the art technique at many workshops nationally and internationally. He has also contributed to many textbook chapters and has many scientific publications in high impact journals to his credit. He is one of the few selected members on the review board of the prestigious international journal ‘Spine’.

He believes in the least invasive solutions for degenerative conditions, tumours, trauma, deformity and infection.

Dr Dutta’s Neck and Spine Clinic is a modern centre of excellence and he is available for consults at Dr. Dutta’s multispeciality Clinic and Medica Superspeciality Hospital where he operates.
