Dr. Subash Khanna is one of the eminent doctors of Guwahati who has earned the reputation of being a pioneer endolaparoscopic surgeon doing advanced laparoscopic surgery, therapeutic endoscopy, and Bariatric surgery. Dr. Khanna is one of the pioneers to start laparoscopic surgery and therapeutic endoscopy in the North East. Dr. Khanna is a Senior Consultant Endolaparoscopic surgeon at the Swagat Endolaparoscopic Surgical Research Institute, Guwahati.

Dr. Khanna's entry into the world of medicine started after he completed his MBBS in 1979 from the Gauhati Medical College. This was followed by MS (General Surgery) in 1983 from the same institution. Apart from Basic Laparoscopic surgery, he has also been a forerunner in many new Surgical Techniques in the North East. He was awarded the Fellowship of International College of Surgeons in 1992. He has undergone Advanced Laparoscopic training in Dundee, Scotland in 1997, and in Vienna (Austria) in 1998.

Dr. Khanna started advance laparoscopic surgery in the state of Assam and also started the first Bariatric surgery centre and made the first use of Single port and staplers in the North East. He is one of the first few doctors in the country to introduce the techniques of Endoscopic Management of Complex Anal Fistula in Ano and Endoscopic Scarless Surgery for Goitres.

He established the first Minimal Access Surgical Centre in Eastern India in 2000, where he runs regular Hands-on-Laparoscopy and Endoscopy training courses. And in the year 2015, he established the first Super Speciality Surgical Institute in the North East at Guwahati.

Dr. Khanna is the Vice President, Hernia Society of India; Governing Council Member,  Association of Surgeons of India, Assam; and Member, Editorial Board,  Journal of Minimal Access Surgery. He has been an examiner for Dental and MS courses under Gauhati University. He is also an examiner and Inspector for DNB in Minimal Access Surgery, recommended by the National Board of Examinations, and also Inspector of Medical Council of India. 

He has also been a National Trainer in Ethicon Endosurgery Institute and Animal Lab at Mumbai since 1995. Dr. Khanna, who has performed over 20,000 Endolaparoscopic surgeries, has been instrumental in training over 400 surgeons not only in the country, but all over the world. In affiliation with the state Medical University, Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences, he has started the Swagat Academy of Medical Sciences that runs formal Fellowship and Diploma Courses in Minimal Access Surgery. 

He is also a recipient of the Dr G P Sarma Memorial Oration of (2014) and also the prestigious Dr Santokh Singh Endowment Lecture of ASI (2014).
