Dr.V.N. Unni

Dr V. Narayanan Unni, is the Lead Senior Consultant in the department of Nephrology at Aster Medcity, Kochi.  A highly qualified  Nephrologist with over  28 years of experience in Nephrology,  Dr. Unni  was the Professor & Head of dept. of Nephrology at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Cochin for over  15 years;  the department of Nephrology, hemodialysis unit and transplantation programmes (live related donor as well as cadaver donor) were started and organized under his guidance.Prior to this period, he was the Professor and Head of Nephrology at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, where he organized and set up dialysis and transplant programmes.

Dr.Unni has had a brilliant academic career, having been the  First Rank holder in the University for the Pre-degree course as well as the MBBS course ; he was the Best Outgoing Student of his batch at Calicut Medical College, where he had bagged  7 gold medals and Merit Scholarships and a Talent Search Scholarship  of Indian Council of Medical Research. He had his postgraduate training in Internal Medicine and Nephrology at the prestigious Christian Medical College, Vellore and the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (P.G.I.), Chandigarh.

He has been awarded the Fellowship of Royal College of Physicians of Glasgow, UK  and the Fellowship of Indian Society of Nephrology. With  54 publications in national and international journals and  having contributed chapters in four textbooks, Dr.Unni  is  well known in Nephrology circles. He has given presentations and Guest lectures in several Internal Medicine and Nephrology conferences. His areas of interest in Nephrology are  Hypertension, Hemodialysis, kidney transplantation, Diabetic kidney disease and  glomerular diseases.
