Cardiovascular disease is the term interchangeably used with heart disease. The disorder is a condition of heart disease that involves narrowed or blocked blood vessels that can lead to a heart attack, chest pain or stroke. People having high blood pressure, smoking, high blood cholesterol, diabetes, lack of exercise, obese, family history of heart disease and ethnic background are at high risk for cardiovascular disease.
There are four main types of CVD:
- Coronary heart disease
- Stroke
- Peripheral arterial disease
- Aortic disease
Some of the symptoms of cardiovascular disease:
- Chest pain
- Shortness of breath
- Irregular heartbeat
- Swollen ankles
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor if you have signs of chest pain, shortness of breath and frequent fainting. The doctor may conduct few tests to diagnose the condition.
