Brain Aneurysm is an abnormal weak spot on a blood vessel that bulges the arterial wall. It is the leak or rupture that causes bleeding in the space between the brain and the thin tissues covering the brain. A ruptured aneurysm is life-threatening and requires prompt medical treatment. Aneurysms can develop anywhere in the brain but common in arteries at the base of the brain. People in old age, smoking habits, high blood pressure, head injury, heavy alcohol consumption, certain blood infections, hardening of the arteries and low estrogen levels are at high risk for the brain aneurysm.
Some of the symptoms of Brain Aneurysm:
- Sudden and severe headache
- Neck pain
- Nausea and vomiting
- Sensitive to light
- Fainting or loss of consciousness
- Seizures
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor if you have signs of sudden and severe headache. Emergency treatment is needed if the patient loses consciousness and faints.
