Bronchiolitis is a lung infection usually affected in children between 6 months and 3 years age. The inflammation is usually caused by respiratory syncytial virus. It causes congestion in the small airways (bronchioles) of the lung. Bronchiolitis is almost caused by viral infection and the effect is high during winter months. The infections that cause bronchiolitis are contagious and the germs may spread in tiny drops of fluid from the infected person. Babies who are exposed to cigarette smoke are more likely to develop severe bronchiolitis than compared to those smoke-free homes.

Consult a doctor if you have signs of bronchiolitis with vomits, breathing problems and audible wheezing sounds. Early treatment is better and bronchiolitis in kids younger than 6 months old are at high risk.
