Idiopathic Scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine instead of growing straight, usually in late childhood or adolescence. The spine is elongated in “S†or “C†shape; the bones are also slightly twisted or rotated. Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis is developed at the time when children are rapidly growing. The abnormal spinal curve is stable in some cases and progressive over time in other cases, severe and progressive curves are frequently seen in girls than in boys for no particular reasons. Though mild curvature is equally seen in both girls and boys.
Mild scoliosis is normally not painful with movement or without movement; it may be diagnosed if noticed early. Scoliosis typically occurs without any prior signs or symptoms. There can or cannot be a family history of idiopathic scoliosis.
Some of the symptoms of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis:
- Curve of spine does not put any pressure on other organs
- Lower back pain can be observed
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor immediately when you notice disordered growth in the spine, and treatment is recommended based on the risk of curvature progression.
