Amnesia is a condition of memory loss due to brain damage or psychological trauma. The memory loss may be partially or wholly lost. There are multiple types of Amnesia: Anterograde amnesia, Retrograde amnesia, Dissociative amnesia, Lacunar amnesia, childhood amnesia, source amnesia, Transient global amnesia, Drug induced amnesia, prosopamnesia are few types.
Amnesia may be caused by head trauma (due to head injuries), traumatic events (seeing some distressing incidents) or physical deficiencies.
Some of the symptoms of Amnesia:
- Partial memory loss
- Total memory loss
- Inability to recognize places & faces
- Unable remember past events
- confusion or disorientation
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a General physician or Neurologist when you have problem with memory of past events partially or totally.
