Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) is an unusual connection between vein and arteries. Arteries carry oxygen-rich blood into the spinal cord where it branches into two smaller capillaries or blood vessels. Spinal cord extracts oxygen from the blood and passes the oxygen-depleted blood into veins which flow from the spinal cord to heart and lungs. But Arteriovenous Malformation directly passes blood from arteries to veins bypassing capillaries.
Some of the symptoms of Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) Spine:
- Difficulty in walking or climbing steps
- Lower back pain
- Headache
- Numbness and sudden pain in legs
- Bowel problems
- Stiff neck problems
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor immediately if you notice the signs of AVM spine. The doctor may suggest you for surgery in serious condition.
