Bacterial Endocarditis is the infection developed in the inner lining of the heart due to bacteria or other germs. The infection may enter into the body from various parts of the body as through mouth, bloodstream and attach to the damaged areas in the heart. Endocarditis, if left untreated can damage or destroy the heart valves and lead to life-threatening complications. People with damaged heart valves, artificial heart valves or other heart disorders may be at high risk of the infection.
Some of the symptoms of Bacterial Endocarditis:
- Fever and chills
- Fatigue
- Sudden weight loss
- Persistent cough
- Swelling in feet, legs or abdomen
- Paleness
- Shortness of breath
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor if you develop signs of endocarditis especially if you have risk factors for the infection. Immediate treatment and medication may be needed.
