Bowel-associated dermatosis-arthritis syndrome (BADAS) is also known as Bowel bypass syndrome. It is the condition of diarrhea with a resultant malabsorption, arthritis and skin lesions. This condition may be observed in patients who underwent intestinal bypass surgery. An excessive immune response to gut bacteria may be the major cause of BADAS. Antibiotics can cure the condition successfully, but a surgical procedure may be effective in severe cases.
Some of the symptoms of bowel associated arthritis syndrome:
- Typical episodic joint pains
- Red patches in the affected area
- Predominantly affect upper chest and arms
