Bowel bypass syndrome is also called bowel-association dermatitis-arthritis syndrome and blind loop syndrome. This is caused by bacterial overgrowth in blind loop of bowel. Bowel bypass syndrome is associated with diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease and peptic ulcer disease. Bowel bypass surgery may include complications persistant watery diarrhoea, liver failure, kidney stones, gallstones, vitamin A deficiency, and zinc deficiency.
Some of the symptoms of bowel bypass syndrome:
- Small red bumps, blisters and pustules on trunk and upper arms
- Fever
- Muscle aches and pains
- Non-destructive polyarthritis
- Inflammation of tendons
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor if you have signs of the bowel bypass syndrome. The doctor may suggest some antibiotics or surgical treatment in severe cases.
