Read MoreMy 66-year old father recently had to get his toe nail extracted at Salem Gopi Hospital and the experience was extremely horrible, to say the very least. The doctors, the staff, the environment and the administration is all terribly mismanaged. All patients including my father were very poorly treated and the overall experience was extremely gruelling. The first time my father went there to see the doctor, Dr. G. Gopalan, (who I am not even sure if he is a podiatrist?!!), the Doctor was late by 1 hour. Apparently, this is very normal for Salem Gopi Hospital. My father, who was already suffering due to his hurting toe and couldn’t walk comfortably, was asked by the doctor to get him gloves from downstairs. Yes, Mr. G. Gopalan asked my father, the patient in pain, to get him doctor’s gloves from the floor downstairs. How pathetic is this! Unfortunately, I live in the US and couldn’t be there with my father at that time but when my mother told me about this incident, I was shocked and extremely sad. In the end, the doctor advised my father to return in a few days for a nail extraction surgery and said that “If there is pain, he may have to spend the night at the hospital.†With such a vague statement like that, my father wasn’t even sure whether he was supposed to stay the night or not. From my research online, nail extraction surgery is generally a painless surgery. The doctor could have easily made the effort to get the surgery done in a manner that he doesn’t need to stay back but the story is still not over. The worst part is yet to come. Next time, my father went to the same hospital again to get his nail extraction surgery done. The doctor had called him in at 3pm so my parents reached there promptly, on time. Only after they reached there did they realise that the doctor generally has his consultation hours from 4pm to 7pm and once he’s done with his general consultation, will be process to surgery. So, my parents were made to wait till 8pm for the doctor to finish his consultations and then my father went in for surgery, finally after a mere 5 hour wait. The staff, the nurses, the administration don’t work there. They are generally found in huddles watching a video on someone’s smartphone or giggling and chatting. My mom who needs a walking stick to move around had to go around from counter to counter to make a deposit of Rs. 10K and get the receipt. Yes, Rs. 10K for a nail extraction surgery. Surgery time: The doctor applied the local anaesthesia but did not wait long enough for it to settle in before beginning the surgery. He made it so painful for my father that my mother and two other people had to hold him. Again, every single piece of article online, tells me that this is generally a painless surgery. My father is still at the hospital, as I write this, and is getting discharged tomorrow morning. My mother is with him but again, no pillows/blankets and not one person cares to help. I am writing it at this very moment because I don’t want to forget any detail about this whole nightmare that my parents are going through right now. I live away from them and am unable to reach them right now so I’m trying whatever I can, to try to not let this hospital and the doctor get away with doing something like this to anyone else. I don’t know who to report this to or who to talk to about this. I have already left reviews elsewhere and have reached out to the hospital for comments but haven’t heard back from them.
