Clean and radiant skin reflects good health. Wrinkling and aging of skin is marked by the decline in collagen in our body. Collagens are building blocks of skin. Graceful aging can be attained by providing skin with various nutrients.


Free radicals in our body lead to oxidation of cells, which causes aging. Eating food high in antioxidants helps to get rid of these free radicals and thereby delays aging and wrinkling of the skin. The vitamins that can fight free radicals are vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin E. Vitamin A can be found in carrots, tomatoes, sweet potatoes and green vegetables. Vitamin C can be found in red pepper, strawberry, grapefruit and orange. Vitamin E can be found in vegetable oils, olives and spinach.


This fruit is considered to be extremely healthy for skin. It is rich in minerals and vitamins that are essential for maintaining a radiant and youthful skin. This fruit is known for vitamin A, vitamin B and vitamin E. It also contains Omega-3 fatty acids as well as potassium and lecithin. Lecithin strengthens skin cells while A and E vitamins are antioxidants. Inflammation of skin is prevented by several minerals present in avocado.


These have very high concentration of antioxidants and they work as anti-inflammatory agents for the skin while helping the skin to heal quickly. These are low on calories and hence, they can be included in daily diet or as simple snacks every day.

Cruciferous vegetables

Vegetables like cabbage, kale and broccoli are known as cruciferous vegetables. These vegetables are known for detoxifying body and at the same time, they have several antioxidants and minerals, which are responsible for repairing damage caused to the skin and also for fighting free radicals that cause aging.

Green leafy vegetables

Spinach and collard fall under this category. These vegetables are high in vitamin A and vitamin C, which known as carotenoid antioxidants. They help in keeping skin smooth and soft.

Omega-3 fatty acids

These are known for maintaining healthy heart. However, these fatty acids are also known to have anti-aging properties and help to maintain healthy skin. These fatty acids can be found in eggs, seafood, walnuts and canola oil.

Green tea

This tea is minimum processed tea containing high amounts of antioxidants known as catechins. Catechins improve blood circulation to the skin and keep the skin hydrated.

Sunflower seeds

These are sources of high levels of antioxidants and fatty acids. Vitamin E is the primary antioxidant in these seeds, which along with the fatty acids helps to slow down skin aging while keeping the skin supple and soft.

Whole grains

Whole grains are rich in vitamin B. This vitamin helps to replace dead skin cells with the new ones and helps preventing roughness and dry skin. Brown rice, oatmeal, pasta and breads made of whole wheat are the primary food products which are classified as whole grain foods.
