Autoimmune Hepatitis (AIH) is a chronic disease. There are multiple types of hepatitis and viruses cause most types of hepatitis. AIH is a chronic disorder which may result in cirrhosis (scarring) of the liver that results in liver failure. Women are more likely to get affected by AIH and people with family history of AIH, having history of bacterial or viral infections, people using certain medication as minocycline are likely to be affected by Autoimmune Hepatitis. There are 2 types of AIH: Type 1 - tends to affect young women and Type 2 - develops between ages 2 and 14.
Some of the symptoms of autoimmune hepatitis:
- Fatigue
- Upper abdominal discomfort
- Myalgia
- Diarrhea
- Pale colored stools
- Dark urine
- Skin rashes
- Weight loss and intense pruritus
- Chest pain from pleuritis
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor if you have signs abdominal distention having dark-colored urine and pale colored stools. Early diagnosis and treatment can help in better recovery.
