Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a branch of Dentistry that specializes in surgery of entire craniomaxillofacial complex that is the face, mouth, jaws, anatomical area of skull and as well as associated structures Oral Surgery is a separate recognized specialty confined to surgery within the mouth. Depending upon the jurisdiction, maxillofacial surgeons may require training in dentistry, surgery, and general medicine.

• Oozing discharge, especially pus.
• Difficulty opening the mouth.

 

Post Operative Recall

Patient can be recalled anytime between 7 to 10 days based on the type of procedure and severity of the infection. Further recall if and when required shall be case sensitive.

Prosthodontics

Prosthodontics, also known as dental prosthetics or prosthetic dentistry, is the area of dentistry that focuses on dental prostheses. The ADA defines it as "the dental specialty pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance of the oral function, comfort, appearance and health of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or deficient teeth or oral and maxillofacial tissues using biocompatible substitutes. Prosthodontics is the only dental specialty under which the concentration of cosmetic/esthetic dentistry falls. General dentists may perform some simple cosmetic procedures. Consequently, there are questions regarding whether it is ethical for general dentists to treat "smile makeovers" or complex cosmetic and full-mouth reconstruction cases, as they are not qualified to address the complex needs of the patient. Likewise, there is no specialty recognized by the ADA for dental implants.

 

Scope

A prosthodontist is a dentist who:
1. Specializes in the aesthetic (cosmetic) restoration and replacement of teeth.
2. Receives three to four years of additional training after dental school.
3. Restores optimal appearance and function to your smile. The planning, surgical placement and restoration of implants and rehabilitation of occlusion with prostheses all fall under the field of prosthodontics.

Usually NO Lab test or Investigations are required for Prosthodontic intervention however can be taken if and when required if case specificity demands.

Orthodontics

If you have advanced gum disease, or have been struggling to keep your gum disease under control, you should see a Periodontist. Some patient’s periodontal needs can be managed by the general dentist however we being a specialty oriented practice emphasize that Periodontist is the most appropriate dental specialist to cater to your needs.

Oral Medicine and Radiology is a specialized branch in dentistry that deals with diseases of oral and surrounding structures, oral manifestation of systemic diseases and oral and dental treatment of medically compromised patients.

 

Scope of Oral Medicine

Oral medicine is concerned with clinical diagnosis and non-surgical management of non-dental pathologies affecting the orofacial region (the mouth and the lower face).

Treatment Recall

Patient shall be recalled every 2-3 days till the treatment finishes depending upon the treatment rendered to them. Usually Treatment tenure lasts for 6-10 months until partial/complete remissions. As mostly diseases are autoimmune in nature sometimes complete remission is difficult but definitely not impossible. Post treatment 3 to 6 monthly check up schedule to be followed.

Oral Pathology is the specialty of dentistry and discipline of pathology that deals with the nature, identification, and management of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial regions (the mouth and jaw areas). Microscopic Diagnosis
The key to any diagnosis is thorough medical, dental, social and psychological history as well as assessing certain lifestyle risk factors that may be involved in disease processes. This is followed by a thorough clinical investigation including extra-oral and intra-oral hard and soft tissues.

 

Microscopic Evaluation / Lab Test/ Radiological Investigations

The specimen gathered is sent for histopathological evaluation under Microscope for detailed studying to know the cellular pattern and cellular changes thus establishing the diagnosis and further treatment to be laid.
