Dr. P Sukumaran is former Vice Principal and retired Professor and Head of Department of Pulmonary Medicine of Medical College, Kottayam.

On the academic front, Dr. Sukumaran has completed his MBBS from University of Calicut and MD (TB and Respiratory Diseases) from Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute (VPCI), New Delhi. Since 1981, the year his MD degree was finalized, Dr. Sukumaran has been pursuing his passion for teaching and training undergraduate and post-graduate medical students. Other than this, Dr. Sukumaran can be credited with some very valuable contributions he has made which may be summarized as follows:- He was at the forefront of setting up a full-fledged Pulmonary Medicine Department with state-of-the-art facilities at TDMC, Alappuzha as well as Medical College, Kottayam. He is also one of the principal persons responsible for introducing MD course in Pulmonary Medicine at Medical College, Kottayam.

In his long career span, Dr. Sukumaran has attended a multitude of conferences conducted at a national and global level. He has not only presented his papers in national conferences but furnished copious articles in national journals like Indian Journal of Chest Diseases and Indian Journal of Tuberculosis and Pulmon.

Presently, Dr. Sukumaran serves as a Senior Consultant Pulmonologist at Bharath Hospital, Kottayam as well as runs a private clinic from his residence. His volume of work is so high that Dr. Sukumaran sees an average of 100-150 patients each day. His wide spread practice caters to patients coming from the central and southern districts of Kerala. Besides this, he has a loyal patient clientele based in UK, US and Gulf countries as well.

Dr. Sukumaran is an adept clinician and a humanitarian at heart.
