Dr. Suhas J Bardapurkar

Pulmonologist Dr. Suhas Bardapurkar is one of the highly experienced health care professionals from Aurangabad with a career innings of three and half decades. He has immense expertise in Respiratory Medicine, Allergy and TB, his core areas of specialisation.

Dr. Bardapurkar is a post graduate MD (General Medicine) from Government Medical College, Aurangabad. At the inceptive stage of his career, Dr. Bardapurkar served as a Tutor in the Department of Chest Medicine at G S Medical College & KEM Hospital, Mumbai, under the mentorship of eminent Chest specialist, Prof. Dr. S R Kamat. As a member of Air Pollution Survey team headed by Dr. S R Kamat, Dr. Bardapurkar had the privilege to work on one of the biggest projects on air pollution, which received wide appreciation from the WHO team. His extensive career, marked with some significant achievements may be summarized as below.

- He was instrumental in setting up an Allergy Clinic and Lung Function Laboratory for the first time in Marathwada Region.

- As the Director, Hitech-Adhar Critical Care Centre, Aurangabad he oversees operations of the centre offering innovative facilities, one of its kind in Marathwada region.

- He holds a record registered in the Limca Book of National Records- 2009 for educating maximum number of Bronchial Asthma, COPD and TB Patients through the ‘Free Education Programme’. Over 10,000 patients with their relatives attended this event and made it a huge success, thereby creating a national record.

- Presented paper on “Effect of injection terbutalin in acute Bronchial Asthma” at 2nd National Conference on Respiratory Diseases, Mumbai. This was one of the first studies in India.

- Till date, has delivered lectures on Bronchial Asthma, COPD & various chest diseases in 24 districts of Maharashtra.

So far, Dr. Bardapurkar has presented 20 papers in national, international and Marathwada regional conferences, some of these being conferred the ‘Best Paper Award’. He believes in the importance of a well planned patient education programme (PEP) and hence dedicates three Sundays every month to conduct free education programme on Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Tuberculosis, respectively. By highlighting the aspects of these lung diseases, PEP has brought about a positive transformation in the lives of scores of patients and their family members by helping them cope with the disease mentally.

Presently attached to Shree Nursing Home, Dr. Bardapurkar’s true achievement has been the countless lives he has treated and saved through psychological counselling and implementation of appropriate effective measures, to fight through the dreaded respiratory diseases.
