Achalasia is dysfunction of esophagus, the tube which carry food from throat to the stomach. The food in esophagus may get trapped, the nerves may be damaged. There are several reasons for Achalasia: may be hereditary or caused by auto immune condition, or due to degeneration of nerves in esophagus. Some of the symptoms of achalasia:
- Difficulty in swallowing
- Bringing up of undigested food
- Choking, coughing, fits, chest pain and heartburn
- Gradual weight loss
