Ataxia is a neurological disorder of lacking muscle control during voluntary movements, such as walking, eating or picking some objects. Persistent Ataxia is caused by damage to cerebellum, the part of brain which controls muscle coordination. Several conditions like alcohol abuse, stroke, tumor, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy may trigger Ataxia. It can also be inherited as defective gene. The treatment depends on the cause of the condition.
Some of the symptoms of Ataxia:
- Poor coordination
- Difficulty activities as eating, writing or buttoning shirt
- Difficulty in swallowing
- Change in speech
When should you consult a doctor?
Consult a doctor if signs of losing balance, slur speech, difficulty in walking and swallowing. Early treatment may help recover earliest.
