Dear Patient: Such types of irregular bleedings are common with progesterone only contraceptives. Such bleedings are harmless, if they are not heavy. Usually they are spotting type if they are prolonged or menses like if bleeding is short lived. And usually they are not heavy. So you need not worry about those bleeding patterns. Effect of the nexaplonon lasts for three years. Doctor has called you for routine questioning and this visit may be skipped. So once again, if the bleeding is not heavy, forget the visit to the doctor. But the implant has to be removed after three years. That is also a very simple procedure. For that visit to the doctor is a must. I am sorry that you have to worry about the money to be paid for consultation. Such charges can always be skipped by the doctors. My periods were HEAVY since june when it started to prolong and my question is... Is nexaplnon suppose to just change your periods after haveing it in for 6 months? Because mine were fine for 6 months than it started to screw up and than spetember it was just spotting like almost non exsistant.. Can i get pregnant on the nexplanon? is there any chance it could malfunction before the 3 years?

Thanks for asking the query. Answer is this is possible to have all sort of erratic paterens of menses are possible with progesterone only contraceptive. This contraceptive is most effective cotraceptive avaliable today. There are very low chances that you had an abortion bleeding. There are 0.05 % chances of getting pregnancy. You need not worry about pregnancy. If you do not have periods for two months, then you can do pregnancy stip test at home only. This can be done every fifteen days, till you get menses. If it happen to get positive, pregnancy can be terminated by tablets only. In my practice of 30 years I do not remember a single patient getting pregnancy with progesterone only contraceptive. Only better contraceptive is complte abstinanace. Which is not possible.

but is it normal to be regular 6 months on the implant than all of a sudden go irregular to almost non exsitant? i know 3 people who got pregnant on this implant all from the same county whats the odds of that?

Dear Mam,
This is one of the best cotraceptive method available as on to day. No method is 100 % effective. Such type of irregular bleeding is THE cause, why most of the patients stop using this method of contraception. Failure rate is 0.05 %. Means it is also NOT 100 % effective. That is why I have told you to do srip pregnancy test at home only. It should be done every fifteen days after you missed the periods. If at all you get pregnancy, it can be easily terminated. So you need not worry about it at all. So rest assured. All the methods of contraception has got some failure rate. If you remove the devise, you will land up yourself in problem. Sex is biological need. But then price has to be paid by females. That is a biological phenomena. So just relax and FORGET the irregular bleeding.

If you know three ladies getting pregnancy from the same country . Means that the people from that country are health concsious. And/or that people from that country expect TOO much from health industry. This is like asking the automotive industry to give guarantee that no accidents will take place due to veicles sold by them. Accidents are part of life. You can have far more serious risk in delivery or far more serious risk in marital relations, if you do not satisfy your hubby sexually.
