5 Simple Ways to Start Meditating

How to start Meditating?

People nowadays have a truckload of complaints about how stressed they are and the plethora of problems they are putting up with due to this. Hence, they scour the internet and empty their wallets on purchasing stress-relievers that purportedly help in relaxation and stress reduction. What they don’t realize is that one does not have to look high and low or make use of fancy solutions to get rid of stress. Practicing something as simple as regular meditation is enough to reduce one’s stress levels and rejuvenate oneself from time to time.

It is believed that the human body is resistant to changes by default and therefore it is going to be tough to thrust meditation practice into one’s daily routine forcefully and suddenly, especially when one has never tried out meditation before. However, it does not mean that it is impossible and you just need to know what should be done. The best time to meditate is in the morning as the mind is fresh with lesser thoughts. Following are five simple ways to begin meditating and experiencing its benefits in your daily life.

Starting Slow

If you are going to start out with ambitious and almost impossible targets then losing interest in meditation is almost inevitable. Thus, it is better to start out slow, say with a 2-3 minutes meditation per day and then slowly build it up to 15 minutes per day. Remember, consistency is the key, not the amount you start out with.

Stop Debating About What is Right or Wrong

Human mind never stops functioning completely and even when we think it is quiet, it does a lot of assessments and thinking at subconscious levels. One of the ways to start meditating is to keep in mind that there is no such thing as rules, so stop worrying about whether you are doing it right or wrong. There are umpteen ways of meditating, and as long as you get the basics right, i.e. sit still, be quiet and focus on your breathing, you are doing a great job.

Create a Meditation Spot

The immediate surroundings affect the human mind tremendously, therefore instead of just sitting down and meditating anywhere, try creating a meditation spot in your house. Try to keep this spot sacred, almost like an altar, because it is your means of escaping from the current busy and hectic world to a brand new feeling of peace and tranquility, even if it is just for a couple of minutes. You can place items like dried lavender, aromatic candles, a Buddha statue and so on to make the spot more appealing.

Getting a Guide

For many people, it is very difficult to start meditating on their own without a guide because their minds start wandering or they get random thoughts. Try a guided meditation program to improve your concentration and get better results.

Learn Breathing Techniques

Breathing techniques like nostril breathing can certainly come in handy for beginners as it helps them focus on meditation better. While there is no right or wrong way of meditating, it does help a lot to learn some breathing techniques and concentrate on inhaling and exhaling during meditation.
