Dental Implant treatment is the complete procedure that you go through when you undergo implants. This treatment consists of two major stages known as implant surgery and restoration. This treatment runs for minimum 3 months, but  in some cases it can stretch up to 9 months including the healing time.

Dental Implant Procedure

Given ahead are some steps which tells you as to how the entire procedure will be done:

·  Firstly, the surgeon will administer a local anesthesia to the adjacent area where the dental implant needs to be done. He will then carefully separate the soft tissues to locate the jaw bone. He will then mark the spot for drilling a hole and later the diameter of the hole will be cautiously widened to make the tooth look a little bigger.

·   The dentist will then use a metal screw to put in into a jaw bone and the screw placed in will settle inside the bone and thus will not be visible. Later, the abutment  will be ideally screwed to the screw inserted and the abutment will be visible finally. As a part of esthetic purpose, the dentist will provide a temporary covering for the abutment.

·   The surgeon will then stitch the flap cautiously and the surgery could last just for an hour if there is no inconvenience witnessed. After this part of the procedure is effectively done, the next treatment is to undergo an implant restoration.

Why One Should Undergo this Procedure?

Besides being able to smile, eat and speak better, dental implants prevent the beginning of poor facial profile as there's a loss of bone mass in your jaw bone. The implants avert the loss of bone by transmitting load forces during the chewing process down into the jawbone. The jawbone, then reacts to this loading by enhancing the bone density. Implants have the capability to stop the loss of bone and reinstate facial skeletal structure while improving the nutrition greatly. There are several adverse consequences from loss of teeth without replacement, they are:

  • Difficulty in Chewing: The teeth, which are missing poses several issues in chewing that could perhaps result in indigestion
  • Drifting of neighboring teeth: When there's a missing gap, opposing teeth might over-erupt neighboring teeth drift into the empty spaces resulting in food trapping and likely decay
  • Bone loss and poor appearance: Loss of youthful as well as facial structure due to bone resorption  and loss of lip support as well

Do I Possess Enough Bone?

For an implant to be successful, it's important for a patient to have adequate bone to support it. If you don't have adequate bone, there are several safe and effective ways to correct the deficiency. A good specialist will help you with this by evaluating and advising you if additional bone material is required. It could be essential for him to carry out an artificial bone replacement, sinus lift or graft from your own bone prior to the implants are placed.

Dental implants in Pune are quite natural looking and feeling and you might even forget that you ever lost a tooth. You might perhaps hide your smile as you are embarrassed by the missing teeth and might be your dentures don't feel secure. A proper surgical procedure is the correct answer for all the above feelings.

Dental implants are nothing but replacement tooth roots that provide a strong foundation for fixed or removable replacement teeth that are created so as to match your natural teeth. An experienced orthodontist places the artificial tooth into your jaw so that it holds a replacement tooth or a bridge. People who have a good oral health and unfortunately have lost a tooth or teeth due to an injury, malfunction of endodontics, periodontal disease or some other reason are perfect candidates for dental implants. Since these implants do not depend on neighboring teeth for support, they are actually more of tooth saving nature than conventional bridgework. The main functions of such implants are to replace one or more teeth without distressing the adjacent teeth, support a bridge and do away with the need for a removable partial denture and provide support for a denture, thus making it more comfortable and secure. People who have lost teeth could feel too self conscious to smile or talk. Moreover, biting irregularities caused by loss of tooth can have a negative effect on eating habits, leading to secondary health problems like malnutrition. By replacing missing tooth roots, dental implants offer people the strength and stability needed to eat all the foods they love, without struggling to chew. In addition, they also stimulate and maintain jaw bone, thus preventing bone loss and helping to maintain facial features.

Dental Implants: The Procedure

You need to consult the best dentist in Pune, oral surgeon or periodontist/ prostodontist to determine if implants are right for you. During this appointment, your dentist will examine your teeth and gums thoroughly and assess bone density and quantity. This might involve X-rays and computer tomography scans (CT scans) to make sure that there's adequate bone structure for placing the implants and to find out precisely where the implant should be placed. Your oral hygiene and personal habits, condition of the oral tissues and commitment to follow aftercare instructions will be some key factors with the help of which your dentist will advise you of the most correct treatment plan. Some patients who have inadequate bone or gum tissue need bone or soft tissue grafts or the use of smaller diameter implants. Your dentist will assess your situation and depending on it he will advise you of how long the complete treatment process will take, the number of appointments that you'll need and the expectation after each procedure. When you're in consultation with your doctor, options for local anesthesia and sedation dentistry, if essential, will also be discussed.

Role of Diet

The role prior to  dental implants in Pune and also after the treatment is very important. It's better to avoid eating sweet foods as consuming surplus processed sugar encourages the formation of plaque. It's advisable to consume healthy foods such as green vegetables, whole grain and skimmed mild or low fat dairy products. Always drink plenty of water so as to remain hydrated. It's also suggested to refrain from drinking carbonated and caffeinated drinks as they could cause harm to your teeth and perhaps even dehydrate you. It's also better, rather strictly suggested to totally avoid hot liquids or foods. And, especially on the day of the surgery, it's beneficial to take plenty of liquids along with soft food. Since, the intake of food is not regular; the dentists insist that for the next few days, it's better to stay away from strenuous physical activity as you could feel weak.
