His early education in the medical field came from Karnataka Institute of Medical sciences, Hubli. He earned a post-graduate seat in MS Orthopaedics through the national level entrance exam at the prestigeous Lokmany Tilak Municipal Medical college, Mumbai (Sion hospital). After finishing the masters with flying colours, Dr Prateek served a bond for year to the government of maharastra in King Edward Memorial college, Mumbai (KEM Hospital). In the same year he acquired DNB degree in orthopedics.
Dr Prateek Patil was drawn towards minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery and firmly believed that it would be the answer to all the issues faced by the patients undergoing open surgeries. He had the opportunity to be trained in Sports injuries and arthroscopic surgery for joints, through an FNB program (a medical council of India recognized degree from the DNB board). Fascinated by the shoulder joint, he pursued his further training in shoulder surgery in France.

Being trained by some of the international stalwarts in field of Shoulder and Sports injuries, he practices in the city of Bangalore as an expert in this field.
