Dear Patient: Yes you might be suffering from GERD. This will be usually due to the weakening of the cardiac sphincter of the stomach. Due to improper relaxation the food contents cannot reach to stomach and remain in oesophagus causing to build up pressure and regurgitating back or choking. Try to avoid oily foods and eat in small gulps each time with sufficient water near you. smoking can be one of its cause. consult a good General Surgeon or a specialized Gastroenterologist surgeon and follow. this may need a manometric assessment and depending on the severity you may need medications or surgery.
