Aakar Asha Hospital, Hyderabad

Aakar Asha Hospital is a unique not-for-profit facility, dedicated to transforming the lives of people with birth defects, Burns deformities, Disability due to accidents and tumours, through reconstructive surgery including micro-surgical intervention and rehabilitation, thus enabling these people to become more productive and self-reliant members of society.

The Hospital is the dream child of DrBharatendu Swain, a widely experienced plastic and micro vascular surgeon, with specialization in reconstructive surgery and skills acquired in various hospitals in UK, Australia, Malaysia and India. His life’s mission has been to set up a dedicated charitable facility to provide services that the underprivileged and physically challenged would, in the normal course, either cannot access or not be able to afford.

The Governing Council of Aakar Asha Hospital comprises distinguished bureaucrats, police officer, banker, chartered accountant, etc.

The mission started with yearly camps in 2004, offering free reconstructive and micro-vascular surgery and rehabilitation for the poor and needy from rural areas in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh  and has grown into Aakar Asha Hospital, a 130 bedded charitable hospital in Kukatpally, Hyderabad, funded largely with grants from various corporate donors, philanthropic individuals and institutions, (Prominent donors include Dr Reddy’s Laboratories and its Promoters, GMR’s Varalakshmi Foundation, RashtriyaIspat Nigam Ltd (Vizag Steel Plant), Gas Authority of India Ltd, Penna Cement Industries Ltd, Boyance Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd, State Bank of India and  State Bank of Hyderabad,Rural Electrification Corporation, National Mineral Development Corporation, Karnataka Zakat and Charitable Trust, Modi Builders, Hyderabad Metro Rail Corporation and Hyderabad Race Club).

We now conduct screening camps regularly, covering districts and sub-divisions.

Aakar Asha Hospital is a modern hospital, being well-equipped with 3 Operation theatres, ICU, wards, Labs, Pharmacy and a state of art Physical Rehab unit.

Each case is well documented and linked to the sponsor concerned, total transparency is assured. The sponsor is kept advised of end-use of their donation, along with details of the people who have benefited from their philanthropy.
