About

Dr. Alla Gopal Krishna Gokhale is a well known cardiac surgeon who created history by performing the first successful human-to-human heart transplant in the erstwhile state of Andhra Pradesh.

Dr. Gokhale did his PG in surgery from Guntur Medical College in 1985 and later joined the Christian Medical College Hospital, Vellore, where he worked for some time as non-PG Registrar and PG Registrar. He did his MCh in Cardiothoracic surgery from Dr. MGR Univeristy in Chennai, and later went on to complete his DNB.

Dr. Gokhale specialized in adult cardiac surgery in the areas of Redo-Coronary and Valve surgery and arrhythmia surgery Cox Maze procedure at West Mead Hospital in Sydney, Australia. He also specialized in aortic root surgery, thoracic-abdominal aortic surgery, Ross procedure, Redo-coronary surgery and Valve surgery at Barnes Jewish Hospital in Washington, New York.

After a two-year stint as Assistant Professor at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences he joined IIM,  Kolkata,  from where he did a Senior Management program.

Dr. A. G. K. He now practices as Chief Cardiothoracic, Transplant and Minimal Access Cardiac Surgeon at Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad.
