Dr. Vijay Dikshit

Dr. Vijay Dikshit is one of the well known cardiologists in India who has performed the rare feat of doing more than 10,000 open heart surgeries at Apollo hospitals, and has, till date, performed more than 16,000 heart surgeries.
 
Dr. Dikshit graduated from King George's Medical College, Lucknow, in 1973 with a Certificate of Honors in Social and Preventive Medicine, and also went on to do his masters in surgery from the same institute.
 
Dr. Vijay Dikshit completed his super specialty in cardio-thoracic surgery and joined Apollo Hospital Chennai as a cardio-thoracic surgeon. He later shifted to Apollo Hospital, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, where he established a modern high-tech cardio-thoracic facility.

Dr. Vijay Dikshit, who is currently working as Chief Cardio-Thoracic Surgeon at Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, has a number of unique distinctions and firsts to his credit, some of which are:

• Performed the first Robotic Mitral valve replacement surgery in Apollo Hospital Hyderabad.
• He has performed the highest number of Mitral Valve Replacements with complete chordal Preservation and artificial chordal reconstruction.
• He has performed for the first time in South India, surgery pertaining to Thoracoscopic Closure of Patent Ductus Arteriosus, on a six year old male child in 1996.
• He has performed 362 Consecutive Coronary Bypass Surgeries without any mortality or serious complication during the period from 1991-1993, which was considered a record at that time.
