G.S.V.M. Medical College, Kanpur was the first medical college of U.P established in independent India. It is named after Late shri Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi, a great freedom fighter, who lost his life at the altar of the communal frenzy in Kanpur in March,1931.
The hospitals attached to the G.S.V.M. Medical College are called L.L.R.& Associated Hospitals. The associated hospitals are Children Hospital, Upper India Sugar Exchange Maternity Hospital, Dina Nath Parvati Bagala Infectious Disease Hospital, Dr. Murari Lal Chest Hospital, Laxmipat Singhania Institute of Cardiology and Juggilal Kamlapat Cancer Institute.
