10 Reasons Why You Could Be Eating Too Much

Reasons for eating too much

People can be broadly classified into two groups based on their eating habits and love for food - those who eat to live and those who live to eat. The reason for consumption of food does not always have to be hunger and there can be several other reasons too as to why people turn to food. Sadly, a lot of people do not realize this, and they become baffled when they see their weight on the weighing scale and realize that they have packed on extra pounds on their body. Given below is a list of ten reasons why you could be eating too much -

Mood Swings

Most people have the tendency to turn to food instead of coping with their feelings like stress, anger, loneliness and boredom. This is known as mood eating. Sure, you may be using food to comfort yourself but this practice or habit is very punishing for your waistline.

Bad Habits

If your refrigerator is well-stocked with snacks then you will have the tendency to snack throughout the day and skip main courses. Thus, it is best not to buy too many snacks. After all, what the eyes do not see, the heart does not lament over.

Supermarket Shopping

Going for grocery shopping may seem like a necessary thing to do, but often people get sidetracked and start tossing in snacks to their shopping cart too. One cannot blame them as well - after all it is hard to resist something when the supermarket shelves display them in such an attractive manner.

Too Many Cafes and Restaurants Around You

If you live in an area where there are plenty of restaurants and cafes then it goes without saying that you will be tempted to eat in these every now and then and this leads to overeating, which is terrible.

Mindless Eating

This generally happens when our mind is occupied with other thoughts. Combining your meals with watching television or talking on the phone can definitely trigger overeating.

Bigger is Better

In case of all restaurants and eating places, the larger order you place, the more discounts you get. Therefore people tend to go for supersized meals because they are more economic. This in turn causes overeating because people generally polish off everything on a plate because they don’t want their money to be wasted.

Dieting

This is rather ironical because it is supposed to help one eat healthy and in right proportions. When a non-dieter tries to restrict his/her food intake and diet then he/she can tend to overeat because they have been ‘deprived’ of good food for a long time.

Getting Exposed to Mouth-Watering Delicacies

If you are exposed to hundreds of mouth-watering delicacies everyday then you will tend to overeat because all of them look so attractive and delicious.

Social Norms

Many times, when people are dining out, it is the norm to eat several helpings in order to not disappoint the host. Thus, even though one may be observing social norms for the right reasons but it does cause overeating.

Snacking

Snacking can lead to overeating, especially in these examples - having peanuts to go along with the beer, grazing on finger foods during parties and munching on popcorn at the theatres.
